The brief

What the client needed.

The client works in stationery and gifts, where trophies tend to look the same: similar shapes, similar materials. That made it hard for the brand to stand out.

It needed an award that people would remember and want to keep on their desk.

The approach

How AYWU answered it.

The team designed a minimalist desktop award built from a few honest parts: a round face, a wood-grain ring and a single bent metal stand.

Every choice was made for how the award is actually seen: at eye level, on a desk. The stand holds the face at 55 degrees, and the text is etched rather than printed for a finer, longer-lasting finish.

Design details

What makes it work.

55-degree stand

A custom stand tilts the face to 55 degrees, improving the viewing angle so the award is comfortable to read at eye level.

Etched lettering

Text on the face is etched, giving a fine, precise finish that lifts the overall quality.

Mixed materials

Magnesium-aluminium alloy with a wood-grain decorative finish gives a warmer, richer texture than plain metal or acrylic.

Room for brand

The segmented face can carry a company's name, values or logo, making it suitable for corporate awards.

Development

From idea to product.

Each stage was reviewed before the next began. Services: appearance design, structural design, printing and etching, injection moulding and assembly, metal bending.

  1. 01

    Appearance design

Minimal form and material palette defined to look distinctive on a desk.

  2. 02

    Structural design

The tilt structure and the joints between face, ring and stand engineered for stability.

  3. 03

    Printing and etching

Text and graphics applied with etching for a fine, durable finish.

  4. 04

    Injection moulding and assembly

    Component production and final assembly.

  5. 05

    Metal bending

Magnesium-aluminium alloy bent to form the single-piece stand.

The result

The tilted structure, composite materials and fine etching take the product out of the race to look like everyone else. It displays better on a desk, its texture expresses the brand, and it helped the client compete for corporate award and creative gift orders.
